Try to find an Axess Electronics BS1 buffer... great piece of kit which has an isolated output (for ground loops) as well as a phase switch (always a risk when playing with 2+ amps). I've tried the Ebtech hum eliminator... have mixed feelings on it... it is a "miracle device" for killing ground loop...

Hard to tell if those are specifically designed for VHT amps or not...

if you're looking to use EL84's though, how about THD yellowjackets in an RM100?

Jim-- Welcome back! So I assume that's your XTC up on craigslist? ;) FWIW, I'd been away from modular for about 2 years (first on a Mesa kick, then on an Axe-FX kick) and recently came back myself. Went from having no modular gear to a MOD100, an RM22, and 15 modules in a matter of weeks. (And I sti...

Totally agree... I'd go so far as to suggest that understanding the dynamics of mic + speaker interaction GREATLY HELPS when using IR's... to be able to understand the freq. response curves of both different mics and different speakers, to understand the impact of proximity effect + on/off-axis plac...

Another fave is the CAE MC 404. Switchable Fasel inductors and a boost. I'll second this... the MXR/CAE is my current wah of choice for tone + flexibility... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Abd7Bk1ech0 That said, I've gone through a small mountain of wahs over the years... other favorites are the Ib...

Freaky... that's totally the opposite from what I'd expect.

How well matched are the pairs of power tubes? If the hum is following a particular pair of tubes, they may be the culprit.

If I recall correctly (and it's been a while), I thought that early RT2/50's were wired in such a way that generated more hum, but the design was modified in later RT2/50's to reduce the amount of hum. What exactly changed in the design, I do not know, nor if it is something that is easily remedied ...

So you spend $100+ on a stupid power cable just so "Mustang Sally" might sound 0.00001% clearer to you and only you? When was the last time someone came up to you at a gig and asked you why Sweet Home Alabama sounded so much better tonight, and you replied "because I got a new power cable for my am...

Oddly enough, the two positions on my RM22 are SILENT and PLAY (not STANDBY and PLAY as shown in the picture).

Based on what you copied from the manual, it sounds like it is safe to use without a speaker in SILENT mode.
