Who Knows about the Mesa Fifty/Fifty??

Thanks :) I kinda gave up on this thread. The weight doesn't really bother me, but I'm definitely interested in an adjustable bias. Mesa's got a real racket going with their fixed biases and mesa-branded tubes. Just needs some more scrubbing, that bias mod, some new tubes...

Mesa Mark V or mods for my RM100

+3 for the geq it seems. :) I guess the reasonable thing to do is try the 215 I didn't mean any disrespect with the "band-aid" bit. I agree that every piece in the chain from the fingers to the propagated air jutting from the speakers reflecting off the surrounding walls back to the ears of...

    Which tubes to use?

I haven't really experienced issues with any of my JJ preamp tubes... I kinda like the Sovtek LPS tubes too... For me, it would just be nice to be able to get "decent" sounding, reliable tubes, that are consistently made and are easy to find... While we're on it, how do you "test" tubes? I...

Mesa Mark V or mods for my RM100

I really appreciate the input. I think I've come up with something that will work well for me. I could use the RM100 and have my modules modified (and at this point I could go either way on having the MM trannies installed) with a TC G-Force in the loop and a few pedals in front and control...

    Randall Rig Reform

On my amp on the back it says to either use a 5a fast blo or a 2.5a slo blo ... although, I've noticed in pictures that sometimes the written recommended values for the fuses have changed over the years

    Which tubes to use?

my main axe is a PRS custom 24 with the stock pickups... I guess I'm not so concerned about higher headroom on the clean module as I am concerned about whether any of the pre tubes need to be matched and balanced.

    Randall Rig Reform

I was reading up a little bit on the Mercury Magnetics transformer upgrades for the RM100... Is the improvement in overall performance and reliability of the amp worth spending the time and money getting the PT, OT, and choke installed? Currently I have 400mA fast blo fuses for the tubes, a 5a...

    Which tubes to use?

I have an RM100 and I was just wondering about the 3 preamp tubes in the head and the tubes in the modules themselves. Do any of these need to be current balanced or triode matched, or can I just buy 9 regular 12AX7 type tubes and be fine? What type of tube should I try to increase clean...

Who Knows about the Mesa Fifty/Fifty??

Here's the insides of my Fifty/Fifty power amp. I don't really know anything about what's supposed to be inside this thing, but I just wanted to see if anyone here could tell me anything or recommend any procedures I could/should do. Clean it... I know...

    Randall Rig Reform

I'm planning on using a rack with a G-Force and an audio switcher either way, so using a rack mounted preamp and power amp would just be more compact than it would be lighter I suppose. The KH1 seems like the way to go for higher headroom cleans. I have a Timmy overdrive pedal... not exactly...

    Randall Rig Reform

I just recently received a sum of money, and I plan on using a bit of it to overhaul my whole rig. I've spent the last couple days auditioning Mesas (including the Mark V and the new Dual Rec) a 5150 III, Egnaters, and Marshalls, and I've come to the conclusion that I would probably be smart to...

Mesa Mark V or mods for my RM100

I played one of the new Dual Recs today and a 5150 III head both through Mesa Recto cabs. Both heads sounded pretty awesome even at the low volumes I was using, but I'm not convinced that I couldn't get even better sounds out of MTS stuff. Really what I need is a great full, smooth clean sound...

Mesa Mark V or mods for my RM100

I went and played a couple Mark Vs today. They had a combo and a head with an Egnater 2x12 there in the store. I tried them both, but I only got to play the combo at a decent volume. It seems like a pretty killer amp... but idk. It's REALLY hard to tell what all it's capable of in one...

Mesa Mark V or mods for my RM100

The title says it all. I traded a guitar for an RM100 a little while ago, and I've been digging it, but I've had some problems with fuses and I'm finding that it's not QUITE my sound... to be fair though, I haven't tried it with a good cab. I just recently received a sum of money and I'm...

Amp went dead between sound check and show time

My guess is that it was the mains and the two under the midi board since that's what happened to me. I replaced the mains and the fan powered up and the tubes glowed, but there was still no sound, but everything was dandy after I replaced the two under the midi board. I keep getting different...

    Blowing fuses over and over

 Thanks again for the help! I emailed customer service and they said I'm using the wrong values for the fuses. They said to bump the tube fuses up to 400ma slo blo and the two under the midi board need to still be 1.6a but slo blo as well. Hopefully between new tubes and the right...

    Blowing fuses over and over

So... I CAN run the amp with a 4 ohm cab as long as I set the amp's impedance selector to 8 ohms?

    Blowing fuses over and over

That's the thing. The first time it blew fuses, it was the mains and the two under the midi board and after "investigation" I realized it happened because when I went to measure the bias on power tube 1, the leads of my multimeter were way too long and must have touched something causing a...

    Blowing fuses over and over

Interesting about the tube failures... I guess the best thing I can do at this point is have a pro look at it. It's not really killing me not to be able to use this amp for now. I really appreciate all the info :) I'll be sure to go easy on the bias in the future.

    Blowing fuses over and over

No, it's on 120v like it should be. And yes, the amp is used. I'm the third owner I think. I have a backup rig so I'm not really worried. I just started training at a tech shop, so I'll probably just have my boss look at it when I get some money. It's weird that it would be a transformer...
