RG100G3 pre amp, blocking distortion, help please

Post by belleraphon88 » Mon Jul 08, 2013 12:32 pm

Hi
My RG100G3 gets blocking distortion when i turn the level up on the dirty channel.
I know its the pre amp coz ive isolated it from the power amp and the problem is still there.
Had it at a tech recently that fixed my power amp, according to him all the components are fine, power supply, etc.
Any help would be appreciated
thanks

Try swapping out the preamp tubes one by one...Sounds like that's your issue...I dead triode perhaps?

The amp has only one tube and it is in the power amp.

The only way to play that amp is to have the level on the pre amp at almost 0 and then crank the master volume. otherwise its al moosh etc.

When the amp did work i could turn the level up on the pre amp on the gain channel and ot sounded pretty rad, lots of saturation.

It still might be that one preamp tube, that for some reason gets biased too hot or to cold. It happens with tube swaps or electrolytics going bad. Did you recently swap the tube? Did it allways sound like this, or did it just occured recently?
