A couple weeks ago, I picked up a pair of NOS JAN Philips 6L6 WGB's on eBay for next to nothing. They have pretty small bottles, which sort of surprised me... But, I tell you what, these guys sound fantastic! Very warm, with a very predictable, tasty breakup. Typically, I like running my 100W amps at 50W (by leaving out a pair of tubes), as I just prefer the tone and lower power tube headroom. And, with these JAN tubes, it makes my RM100 a blues & low/mid gain master. I felt they were a bit too warm/tame for the higher gain stuff (half of what I play) and lacking power on the extreme bottom end (they're very 'tight' on the bottom), so I mixed em with a pair of 6L6's (Mesa Boogie labeled - prolly re-labeled JJ's), and now it's absolutely perfect! Tons of bite (6L6's), huge powerful bottom, with the warmth and lower headroom for the low/mid gain stuff. It's like the JAN's are the primary tone-makers at lower gain settings, and when pushed, the JAN's get out of the way for the 6L6's, if that makes any sense.

I highly recommend this combination if you play clean, low, mid and brutal high gain. And, the guy I got mine from still has some on eBay. Definitely grab 'em if you can get em cheap! I got my matched pair for only $37...
