I've read a couple reviews of the Friedman C45/Brown Eye/Hairy Brown Eye mods and was wondering how they compare to the Egnater higher gain modules like the SL2, MHG, EG3/4, EG5? Or, said another way, if I've already got an SL2, an MHG, an EG3/4, and an EG5, how much variety would one of the Friedman modules bring to the table?

Thanks!

Have them all. I would say the Friedman stuff is quite different than the Egnater mods. The Friedman BE/HBE and C45 have a completely different voicing. Still very smooth, but overall brighter. The stock Eggie's all are much smoother and darker. The EG5 is kind of similar to the HBE, with a slightly more strident midrange and more compressed. Dave's stuff really sounds like a heavily modded Plexi 100watt head.
