For those interested, The XTC module that I sent to be modded came back from Dave Friedman the other day. Here is what he wrote me....

"Craig, its done and really good. No I mean really good. "

He wasn't kidding! Gone is the tinny harshness and it's way more aggressive with the gain up. Similar to his SL+ mod but a bit brighter, it's thickened up in the mid range and it seems to cut a bit more. I suppose a slightly more "modern" sound than his SL+ mod. (I do love the SL+ mod he did) Single notes are super thick but defined and literally jump off the strings. LOL!

Turn down the gain and it cleans up nice. Sort of a very open distorted sound where are all the notes are distinct and cut through.

Anyway, I suck at describing tones. LOL! but I like it.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the cost for this?

Yes! Still very happy. It's much improved over the original XTC module in my opinion. One thing I've come to realize is how much gain it actually has now, even rolled back to 2, it's still pretty aggressive gain-wise.

Sounds good rolled back for "cleaner" stuff. I am not a huge high gain player but Dave's mods sound really good that way. :D

As for price, each mod has been a bit different. I think this was the first XTC he did so it takes him some time to play around with it, but rates are very affordable as far as I'm concerned.

For those who are not aware.... Dave does all sorts of "name player" rigs. I know he does EVH's stuff, Slash, George Lynch (hint, hint) and the Blankenship Variplex amp was based on one of his Marshall amp mods which is a very popular studio amp in the LA rental scene. Anyway, he is a good guy and well worth checking out.

I actually got my RM100 through Dave by means of my cousin steve who plays for billy idol. He's got friedman modded plexis in his rig.

A band I'm recording at the moment posted a blog with some video clips of them recording through my RM20 with a Dave Friedman modified SL+.
