I want to to introduce the MTS community to my creation, The Douchey Douchebag. There's more to cum later...

I tried drinking the cool-aide, but just couldn?t gel with it.....For a long time, I had heard the Salvation Salvado Deluxe was their top of the line, signature module. ?It was so close to a real SLO, I should buy one and hold onto it forever- It?s just that good.? Well. I tried that. I tried it for close to two years, but to me, it never got me into Soldano land.

I was ruined when my local GC got a used SLO in. Every chance I got, I played it. My Salvado got me nowhere near what the SLO sounded like. The SLO has such a signature sound- Its high gain, and chunky. Its saturated and articulate. It has a lead tone that destroys just about everything and a voice all its own. I loved playing the amp and wanted to buy it. The problem is, that even used, SLO?s are out of my budget.

I sold my Salvado and started looking for something soldano-ish. The Avenger didn?t have the same feel as an SLO, the HotRod was too bright and I didn?t think an MTS module could cop an SLO vibe, so I didn?t look at any of Rob?s modules. I ended up getting a Jet City JCA100 HDM and an EVH 5153 50 watt. I thought I was done. While not an SLO, these two amps got me a lot closer than the Salvado ever did. Be warned MTS forum- The Salvation Salvado Deluxe is a good module, but it doesn?t sound, feel or play like an SLO. I thought my SLO tone search was over with these 2 amps.

In full disclosure- When asked about different mts modders from people on this forum, I was never too keen on Jaded Faith Mods. I had a few of them, but they never did it for me as much as some of the mods, from other modders. So when I was interested in possibly getting another JF mod, I decided I needed to play them first and took an almost 4 hour trip down to see the man himself. As I said in another thread, Rob couldn?t have been nicer and more accommodating to me. I was able to demo every JF mod I wanted to and my opinion of them completely changed. Maybe I just didn?t gel with the old JF modules I had gotten, because some of the modules I played were breathtaking. One of those breathtaking modules was the SL OD100. It had real Soldano tone! It was better than my jet city and so I knew I had to have it. Meanwhile, I had an idea about a custom mts module. I wanted to pay tribute to the most bonkers amp ever made, The Metasonix FuckIng ******.

Rob and I got to talking.

1) To me, an SLO sounds like Lynch Mob?s album Wicked Sensation and Ratt?s self-titled 1999 album. Those were the only 2 SLO tones I was going for or cared about. I asked if the module could be dialed in to get those tones. Examples of the tones I was seeking were-
Ratt-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik3kWShtO3w

Lynch Mob-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoLYy_j_nPw

2) Could there be a more responsive treble control?
3) I need more gain!
4) Can the switches be modified just a bit to better suit the tone I?m going for?
5) Oh yea, I want my module to be lude, rude, and crude. I want a tribute to the Fucking ******, but mine will be called the douchey douchebag

I?ve had the module for about two weeks now, and all I can say is that Rob fucking nailed it! It really nails the 80?s glam/ hard rock sound. I?m using both the Hotrod and SLO (hardcore/ Softcore) settings and both seem very accurate. I?m not even turning the foreplay all the way up. The module seems dynamic. Notes and chords remain thick and complex but the note separation is still there. The module records very, very well. As inaccurate as the Salvado was, is as accurate as the Douchey ******** is. Mine also looks completely bonkers!

If you can afford an SLO, by all means, get it. It?s a truly amazing amp. On a budget, get my custom modded SL OD100. Its as close as you can get to a Soldano SLO for cheap. Rob really knows how to do this tone justice! But please, don?t copy my faceplate ;)

I can't imagine that being a problem, Rossness!!

Sounds like it would be a killer tone though!!

F@CKEN @WESOME!!!

I want one!!! with SLO faceplate of course.

The Soldano SLO is one of my favorite amps of all time!

Clips Please

I'm kinda like Ross on this .. I haven't heard an SLO module that can sound just like an SLO...even after extensive messing with power tubes.

I found the Salvado Deluxe got better with volume.....but I tried and sold this twice...losing money each time.

I don't think I gave the SL-OD100 enough chance but it definitely felt lacking something

The Gigmod SLOdano sounds great for that cutting lead thing but it's noisy with the gain up....I'm not sure it really has the chunk Ross speaks of

Funnily enough the EG5 can be dialed to an approximation but is kinda fizzy to me...could be my speakers or ears.

From the description you gave, that module sounds like it is right up my alley! Thumbs up from me.

Thanks for the positive press Ross and I'm so happy you are loving this mod. Those knobs you sourced really hit the spot.

This module came out fantastic. It's an SL-OD100 under the hood with a tweaked Focus circuit (a bit tighter), a touch more gain and a modded tone stack for more Treble sensitivity. It was a joy to play and I was very happy with the outcome.

Enjoy!

Very cool. I'm surprised Ross needed more treble. I actually think the SL-OD100 can get quite bright as is... then again we have all said one person's treble bliss is another's ear screeching pain inducing shrill.

on an SLO, I use the presence as my treble. on the rm100 amp, I usually keep my presence very low and almost use my treble as a master. I have a weird EQ on the module, where I'm running the treble and mid very high and the bass very low.

I'm also using this mod with Celestion g1275's and I think I could use different speakers. Who else makes speakers that aren't copies of other speakers? There's Celestion, EV, Eminence what else?

What a silly way to talk up a mod?Not obvious in the slightest?.lol?.

Sorry guys but I gotta call this out. This seems like another very obvious snipe at the competition while making a douchey douchebag the hero?.

There would be no douchey douehbag without a Salvado Deluxe first?.Sorry but true?

I'm am fairly certain that any attempt to crap on another mod while boosting another is marketing and shady?No-accident?.It's obvious and kinda sad?.

Valid point, but one must see that he has mods from BOTH modders as well. So it's kinda hard seeing OP being biased.

For the record though, being a business owner at a young age, I'm not on board with saying product/service A is better than product/service B. I'm always the kinda guy that will say "I prefer a" or "I prefer b."
Customer service/great work is what will keep a business afloat, not slander.

Back to hit the slopes in Breck!

To each their own, I totally 100% prefer the original graphic (as the original was my idea with Rob), but if you like it, it was worth your $$.

Never tried an salvado, but there's so much great praise over the years! I'm sure they are both fantastic, I liked all the JF and salvo mods I have tried.

I think you're reading WAY too much into it. I could be wrong though, what the hell do I know? If you look, Ross has many Salvation Mods, why would he go out of his way to slam that guy? I think Ross was simply giving his honest opinion and not being a spokesperson for one specific modder.

If there was no SLO 100, there'd be none of this.

This post is not meant to be snide. It's just this "copy of a copy of a copy of a copy" stuff has gotten old. No one is inventing anything here and how EVERY modder gets to their individual results is completely different. I've seen a ton of them.

While I flattered by your theory, it's really a far simpler scenario. Ross came down to my shop for a few hours one afternoon. I did some work on his amp and he played a bunch of mods while I was working. He loved the SL-OD100 but wanted a few tweaks for his tastes. He's also a SERIOULY funny dude and has a great sense of humor. He always was amused by the Metasonix Fucking ****** amp (go Google it if you don't know what it it, the manual is hilarious). He asked if I'd make a custom mod to his tastes to give him what he felt a Soldano should sound like. He wanted that name and that look. I delivered what he asked for. End of story.

While I realize you like to think there is some alterior motive Matt, it's probably time for you to realize I just don't care about the competition half as much as you wish I did. Successful businesses embrace competition rather than stooping to slander and trashing others.

I believe embracing competition is true. This is trashing one person's work in the attempt to glorify another. Rob you can claim any motive you like but it's your mods being sold while trashing others and you are here defending it.

When my alterior motive comes into play, I will be respectful and not at all want my work to be promoted through the slander of others. There is nothing flattering in that.

Don't worry Rob, I don't plan any dupe and goop operations for my venture so you are safe.

I understand what you mean Drew. But there is a line. I didn't invent any notes, but I can still write my own songs. We've both been around here for a while. This argument is nothing new. The idea that is being "played" lately is that all modders would get along in harmony with mutual respect is silly.

Matt,

I went back and re-read Ross' post, twice. I still fail to see how an individual's, independent and, assumingly, honest review of a product and making comparisons to MANY other products is "trashing" anyone. It's one man's opinion. He didn't think than Salvado sounded like an SLO, done. I made a similar statement about the Camerock in a different thread. Saying something along the lines of the Camerock didn't have the feel or punch of the CCV, was I bashing?

These words were from Ross. Ross owns many Salvation Mods that one can only assume he likes, as he owns them and pimps them in his sig. He was merely expressing his jubilation with a new toy. It's not like he went and sold off all of one modders modules and filled his inventory exclusively from another.

For the record, I disagree with Ross on the Salvado. I love mine. The lead channel is dreamy. I owned an SLO, I sold it when I got my Salvado.

I'll ignore the last part of your post and pin it on temporary insanity as that was a clear slam and I don't feel I need to point out the irony.

Drew

Drink the Kool Aid?

The Salvo Signature Modis touted as "just that good" even quoted to emphasize he believes it isn't?

Now the tone is NAILED. And he won't be fooled again by the false advertising.

Sure, nothing going on here at all.

Those who have been around here don't want this back around I know, but this is getting frustrating to watch and say nothing.
