New 2007 HWM Rig

New HWM 07 Rig

It has been completed. I've taken it out to 5 shows already, and it is an amazingly versatile and great sounding rig. Last year?s Hectic Watermelon NASA rig got downsized into a two-headed monster with a smaller rack. Going with 2 Egnater MODO 50 heads will give me a few less preamp voices than the Egnater M4 and ie4 dual preamp rig, but it be more redundant and easier to move while keeping all the wild and wooly features from the previous rig (info below). I will be updating this thread when my Krizcraft 10 space gets here and gets filled up with goodies! Eclipse, G2, AX100, Switchblade, Rackmixer, Drawer with '69, Choraflange, Keely comp. I'll still use the 2 Earcandy cabs for wet and dry guitar and EV fullrange cabs for piezo and synth.

Here's a clip from the opening of our last show on 3 July 07 at the San Diego Fair. The tune is F Street Fulano - our porno jazz number. You can see how I like to morph between the two Egnater heads, one with a Twin pre, the other with the COD for a range of rhythm and lead sounds. The Twin signal path has a Fulltone Choraflange, and Eclipse reverb and mod delay coming through the two cabs, and a piezo and K2500 Gooshey lead coming through the EV Full Range cabs. The COD signal path only has the mod delay. I have it all dialed in so there are various useful zones in between the two extremes. The dry signal just hits on cab and the stereo wet signal gets routed to both using the two MOD 50 heads' power sections like a stereo power amp patched through the ever-so-useful Switchblade. The FX lets me morph them with a pedal or punch them all the way with either a momentary or latching Boss footswitch.

Here is a live video with the old mond rig that shows how I like to make a big old honkin? Switchblade mega setup with at least two preamps and fade between mutlipe signal paths that are always on. For this whole video, a program change is never sent; I just fade between stuff with Exp or A/B pedals on the FX 1.

The initial psychedelic guitar extravaganza, Little Black Baby Jesus is in two parts: an Eventide backwards delay fest interspersed with Hendrixy clean chords. Then it moves to an obvious hat tip to EJ. Then it is off to the races with Sacred Watershed that mostly fades between the chorused rhythm+piezo+synth and a lead patch with mod delay. Hey John ... Great video. Intro sounds like the Twin module. The leads sounds like EG tone, maybe with your '69 pedal? I love that big fat smooth tone, lots of great clean tones through out. I am assuming mostly the Twin/Vox? Which module are moving between at the end section. Sounds like an SL+ or EG3/4 at about 5:25?

Thanks, this is our smooth jazz number. :lol: Actually, that was with he two preamps in the old rig. So the clean was ie4 Ch1 and the distorted lead was actually the Modern with a single coil and the tone rolled off on the guitar a la Holdsworth...I think EJ does that too a bit. On the new rig I use the T/D ch A and the SL with the '69, as you figured.

Cool, that's what I was wondering about. I've been thinking about a '69 for quite some time to get my big fat swollen blooming EJ type thing going. I was not sure what level of gain needed to be behind it, but SL is perfect. I have the dual SL and it is a killer. Probably the most useful module in the entire line up I think.

In the above Soundsculpture Javablade screenshot, Mix One is a rackmixer group that goes back to the guitar cabs. The Chorus is always patched directly there. Mix Two group goes to the EV full range cabs and FOH Stereo XLR outs off the interface mixer. The Lexicon G2 post section always goes directly to Mix 2 and is used primarily for piezo. Also, for those unfamiliar with Javablade, the nomenclature you see in front oof the Chorus: -6 (Down) Off, means the controller indicated by down arrow goes from a nearly full, -6dB value in this case, all the way down to off when the Down arrow controller is moved through its full range. You can then see how all the other values move with this one single controller to get these sounds on this particular tune. It may seem like a ton of stuff if you are unfamiliar with the rig, but it is actually really easy to set up and get used to with some trial and error.
