Two of my favourite tones (Marshall content)

Two of my favourite tones are from Coheed and Cambria, and Mastodon.
I'm sure I can get both tones from a Marshall or maybe XTC mod, so which of all the Marshall based mods could do these best?
Let's say using a boost for the Mastodon style on top.

Wow! Was waiting for the typical cookie monster vocals on the Coheed and Cambria clip. :lol: Mashall + , 59RR, SG MK22 ............. too many good Marshall Mods to pick from.

Need to listen to more Mastadon! Does your Mr Scary not get you there?

I'm actually going to try out the Mr Scary later, but it's voiced a little different. I love it for all my 80's hair metal, but i'm thinking a thicker Marshall flavour will work better for the Coheed / Mastodon sound.
Perhaps the GrailTone is worth a look, since its sits between the '59RR and the Quick Pro GT.
I beat it'd sit nicely with my MXR ZW44 OD, which is an insane clean boost.

Not sure about Mastodon, bit Travis from Coheed plays a Bogner Shiva. So definitely the JF or Salvation XTC would put you there, while not being specifically Shiva, as in the case of the Shiver. I think the JF XTC is much more versatile and would be my weapon of choice for those tones. \m/ RockNRoll

Huh, I always thought they played Bogner Uberschall's, and in early footage it's definitely Marshall's, and the majority of their tones on the first 3 albums sound VERY Marshall.
Now they use Axe FX, but that doesn't interest me. I think a vintage Marshall mod pushed by my MXR will do nicely, but I'll give the Mr. Scary a run first!

Right on! I might have been inaccurate in the scope of their career, but on the Neverender live performances Travis is definitely rockin' a Shiva. Amazing four night performance of all the first four albums in their entirety for anyone who hasn't seen it!

I've seen Mastodon a couple of times and I'm pretty sure it was all Gibsons and JCM800s on stage.

Maybe they've branched out. Last time I saw them was when Crack The Skye came out.

So my Mr. Scary arrived today, and WOAH! After a good 3/4 years apart, i completely forgot how sweet it's Marshall crunch is! I remembered it having that great 80's hair vibe, but it's so much more than that, especially with the MXR.
I'll defo try out some Coheed / Mastodon riffs tomorrow, and see how she handles them!

Also, with the MXR boost and eq right, I totally nailed Slayer's 'Seasons In The Abyss' tone. Sooooo satisfying!
