Sounds like maybe modded Marshall in it's classic type sound but heavier and tighter.

I was thinking they were Matamp kind of sounds. My C-Watt with an Algal bloom gets in the ball park but is not as tight. I'll try the R50 tomorrow but that's too dark I presume
 
I know around that period they were playing live with Laney AOR 100s and Orange amps. However, around that time I know Verellen Skyhammers were also in the mix.
 
yeah, the 50R sounds better set to light crunch and then using the Algal Bloom and Micro Pod's sub octave
