I've been playing a Mod 50 with an SL2 module for the last 4 years or so. I love the tone on both channels of the SL2, but I did notice that it was much harder to get good pinch harmonics then it used to be on my Peavey XXX. I learned to live with it and kind of forgot about it. But, I recently plugged into an old Line 6 POD at rehearsal. I used the Plexi amp model with a Tube Screamer model boost pedal. The pinch harmonics were effortless, and I was only playing with medium gain.

My question is, is there mod that can be done to the SL2 module that would keep its stock tone intact, but make pinch harmonics easier to play?

Thanks!

Buy a Tubescreamer...I know it's not what you asked but quick fix :)

Put a compressor/sustainer pedal in front of the amp. Or a BBE Sonic Max in the series loop. Either (or both would be my recommendation) would probably help a lot w that.

That's a good cheap pedal that will do the trick.

..and there's the BBE. $99 worth every penny.

Again not what you asked, but your model has a boost. That's why it sounds different/better. The real amp needs a boost too.

add a 100k to 470k resistor from gnd lug to wiper on the gain pot.. be prepare ti turn the gain up somewhat higher..

alternatively... or in combination with ... a 100nF to 1uF cap around the second gain stage cathode (4k7 iirc)

a TScmr or a GE-7 always works nicely.. but adds noise

goodluck!

Will this mod affect the tone much, or does it just add compression?

Thanks!

I have an old MXR compressor I could try. I haven't used it in years because I remember it adding a lot of noise to the amp. The Sonic Maximizer looks good, but I can't add a rack to the equipment I already bring out. I just have too much stuff to take with me.
Thanks!

That $25 joyo is way better than the MXR.

...and if the sonic rack is too big theres this
