So I was wondering the other day about truly inspirational rhythm tone. Great guitarists have a wide variety of tones in their catalog, so I'm thinking about specific songs that exemplify the ultimate in great guitar tone. Also, I'm trying to separate your favorite guitar player from you favorite tones. I know they often overlap. But also, they might confuse the issue. For example, I'm a big Satriani fan, but his tone has never blown me away.

I've had many favorites over the years. The ones that have endured have created those perfect tones in my head - the ones I've been chasing all my life. Thankfully, modded MTS modules have brought these tones to me. Here's my very short list, off the top of my head:

ZZ Top - Tush
Van Halen - Mean Street
Alice in Chains - Them Bones

What song or songs encapsulate the perfect tone for you?

What are you using to get the zz top tush tone??

Too many to name really, I could probably sum it up by sying just about any 80s metal/hard rock guitar tone. But to narrow it down some...
GL - Mr Scary, It's Not Love, Dream Warriors
VH - Unchained, Hot for Teacher
Ozzy - Bark at the Moon
Ratt - Lay it Down, Way Cool Jr, Eat Me Up Alive
Michael Schenker - Save Yourself

Some excellent choices guys.
Hendrix - Star Spangled Banner started it for me.
Alex Lifeson clean tones were the **** on Moving pictures and especially Exit Stage Left.
Really love Ty Tabor's tone on the Dogman album.
Sevendust live tone is pretty crushing. Not my playing style but really dig it.
And my all time favorite is Randy Rhoads - Tribute.

Metallica - The Unforgiven (That solo tone is...URRrgh!)
Chevelle - To Return, Face To the Floor
In Flames - Only For the Weak, everything on Come Clarity
Alter Bridge - Find the Real, Show Me a Sign, Burn It Down, Blackbird

To name a few...more. Amazing to me, the tones in them there songs

Oh, and The Power To Believe Part 2 by King Crimson.

There is a ebow type solo that just sounds amazing. Would love to know what he used for that.
