Yeah, I was hoping maybe Dave only based his answer on them relaying my question to him incorrectly (el34 vs el84), and that he would come back and say, "oh, well el34 is a different story than el84" because of the socket size difference you mention. I decided not to press for further clarification though since I knew they were busy with the launch and it didn't seem like Dave was itching to go into more detail on the subject haha.

If you truly want EL84, can always add a set of Yellowjackets:

Sounds great in my RM50....get bloody hot though.

He doesn't, he wants EL34. Synergy screwed up passing the question to Dave.

I would like to know the answer to this as well. I prefer EL34s to 6L6 in my power section and I would love to be able to swap in EL34.

RT2/50....

Are there any downsides to the RT2 50 - I'm thinking about getting one of those rather than a SYN 50/50? Smile

It is very heavy! They do sound great! I like my Fryette Two/Fifty/Two better though. The RT2/50 colors the sound more which you may like better.

MarcoR,
I'm confused about the Fryette Two/Fifty/Two Stereo Power Amp G-2502-S that you have. It says EL34 matched tubes, while on the descriptionm it says:
Tubes: two 12AT7; two 12AU7; four KT88

What is that mean in terms of EL34 vs 12AT7/12AU7 ?

I can remember that Dave said, he was not convinced of the quality of currently produced EL34 tubes and therefore the 50 Watt amp will be 6L6 only with fixed bias. One should consider that the Syn50 will likely have a different power amp design than the Randall MTS heads. Best choice is to test these amps when they are available at your local guitar store.

You know the whole Friedman not liking EL34 story is kind of funny in light of him just releasing the BE 50 DELUXE, which is based on EL34 power tubes. Some how I think this is more about Fryette than Friedman. Rolling Eyes
