'On the fly cab switch' - is there such a thing? I mean, suppose you play a Fender clean through a cab with blackface-ish speakers and then switch over to a distorted Marshall Plexi. Obvioulsy you'd want the right speaker with the right amp - don't you? Ever looked into this and if so: how is it done?

With the RM4 pre and RT250 Poweramp combination you can do exactly that.

Much appreciated Rick. I don't mean to prove some point just because I choose not to go with the RT2/50 (Although I guess the Mesa would allow me to run the second channel separately too), but let's say you'd want the ability to choose a 3rd speaker or even a 4th.

Is there a common way to tackle this problem without just assigning another channel of the poweramp?
 
There are cab switching devices available.... tonebone do one... and sound sculpture are another... pretty expensive units though.
