I just got a Top Boost module, and all I can say is, "WOW!" It's got a beautiful, gritty chime. And it can get real dirty without losing clarity. It LOVES P-90s too!

I don't forsee EVER modding this module (I have a Blackface for cleans). The Top Boost sounds wonderful as-is!
 
I agree totally with what your saying, i read alot about guys modding the top boost for less gain but i love the clarity in the gain of the module as is....and if you want to get that clean chime happening just turn the gain right down and boost the module volume....works fantastic.
 
On a semi-related note, I just modded my TopBoost today to fix the bug with the R1 resistor being wrong. . made a HUGE difference with my Anderson Drop Top which has very strong pickups. I suspect the newer ones don't have this problem.
