So I was wondering the other day about truly inspirational rhythm tone. Great guitarists have a wide variety of tones in their catalog, so I'm thinking about specific songs that exemplify the ultimate in great guitar tone. Also, I'm trying to separate your favorite guitar player from you favorite tones. I know they often overlap. But also, they might confuse the issue. For example, I'm a big Satriani fan, but his tone has never blown me away.

I've had many favorites over the years. The ones that have endured have created those perfect tones in my head - the ones I've been chasing all my life. Thankfully, modded MTS modules have brought these tones to me. Here's my very short list, off the top of my head:

ZZ Top - Tush
Van Halen - Mean Street
Alice in Chains - Them Bones

What song or songs encapsulate the perfect tone for you?

Pretty much anything by Steve Morse. His lead tone always sings...

ZZ Top - My Head's In Mississippi
VH - Unchained
Cinderella - Somebody Save Me

Kind of hard to point out anything pure with all the processing and doubletracking going on in songs
not to mention the fact I love harmonies
It's not always solely the tone, but also at times the technique or how it fits in a song

but a few of my favorites

Stryper - To Hell With the Devil
Dire Straights - Brothers in Arms
Loudness - Run For Your Life
Vandenberg - Burning Heart
Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon
*Crazy train is higher on my list, but I find it a god aweful guitartone by itself, in the song it fits so well, as if 'out of control', that it's magnificent
Scorpions - Still Loving You

Warrant - All My Bridges Are Burning

Surprised with the metal focused guys here to not see any Sevendust love.

It's hard to pick just one or even a few...

Pink Floyd- Poles Apart
Iron Maiden- Wasted Years
Danzig- She Rides
Machine Head- Clenching The Fists of Dissent

jHere are the ones that come to mind where I had to listen to the guitar tone first... albums listed here:

Van Halen - Fair Warning
Kings X - Gretchen Goes to Nebraska
Stone Temple Pilots - Core
Extreme - III sides
Sevendust - Greatest Hits (cause the tone seems pretty consistent for the first few albums at least)

+1 on Hearts Burst Into Fire by Bullet For My Valentine!!!
Lets see, Machine Head - Slanderous
In Flames - Crawl Through Knives
Pink Floyd - Time
Chevelle - Shameful Metaphors
Dead Sara - Weatherman, Test On My Patience (65 Amps are AMAZING! Module please??!)

F*cking BLACK ALBUM!!!
The list goes on and on for me
