The guitar in this sounds like it's coming from a really old Fender box and I'm sure it is. but it could also be some other thing. The woody open tone is great and the overdrive tone is butter

anyone know how one would achieve this with MTS mods?

Nowadays he uses the first edition of the Fender Blues DeVille with four tens due to it's similarity to the old Super Reverbs and Bassman's so it is most likely a Super Reverb he used.

With regards to his OD it is most likely a combination between a Boomerang Wah and an old original Colorsound Tonebender where both effects are in the lower ranges.

He always use the neck pickup and never stray's away from that.

I thought you were speaking mainly of the vintage style tone. I do believe I could dial the Humble in for this quite easily nonetheless...Both lead and rhythm....

A Twinface or Bassman will also get you there with ease...But when I heard the tune, my head went right to the Humble. I've been working a lot with that mod lately which may influence my decision. Smile

Do you think the boxiness of the sound is mainly the 4 x 10" and that fender circuit? That open, woody hollow tone is magical. Tube rectifier? wish I could get one of those and a negative feedback control, all in a rack amp......

Matt, I don't doubt the Humble could get something tasty as well.

In the older days he probably used a 2x12 or 2x15 setup.

The man himself says that his Strat has got a big beefy natural sound so that can be a big part of it. I would also guess that he is running the amp loud using the guitar volume to tame it.[/i]

I think it is a hollow body guitar 🎸 like a 335/355 that gives it that woody tone.

I would try the Vybe Deluxe for that kind of tone or possibly a Tweed Bassman. I have gotten some nice tones with my Dumble clone but I sure hear that tone as in the Fender space, especially the Modded tweed.

The aforementioned Vybe Deluxe and Twin Tone could easily nail this tone with the right guitar, which sounds like a Strat in the 4 position.

The "woody" tone is there due to the recording itself. It sounds like it's in a small untreated closet or bathroom, or has non-treated gobo's around it, causing the boxiness and phasing.

It also sounds more like a Casino or 330, which are completely hollow body guitars with P90's.
