This space reserved for incoming module review....slightly new recipe on an old favourite...the modded Recto :D

So here are my initial thoughts based on running on my office rig...has a 2x12 which is a bit looser than my regular rig, so going to reserve full comment until I get into into my regular G12H30/v30 4x12 downstairs.

Definately an interesting mod...the bass is just *there* and punchy...overall it's louder too....once I'd figured out the taper on the pots was different too...Gain at 2 o'clock on this is too much :D

It doesn't sound quite the same as the Grail but haven't really pinned that down yet..I think the Grail is slightly 'cleaner' if that makes sense.

EDIT: The stock cap on the Recto/Treadplate ('Red mode') means less mids of course...

The stock c3 cap in this is 500pF..so the Bass should be roughly the same..going to be interesting when I get 'em side by side!

EDIT: I wanted to add another word on the Bass modifications now that I've had a chance to play in several different settings....it really is that much tighter and punchier...I bet it'd be possible to do the mod to another module...say an Ultra and get it to respond like an ENGL or a Diezel for feel.....

I took out the EH tubes and just dropped in a Chinese tube (actually a Mesa SPAX7) plus a tung-sol..I might change the latter for another c8/c9 which I've had in all my Recto modules.

So what herbs and spices did Pete throw in the high gain crock pot this time around? 8)

Not gonna steal Petes' thunder ..well at least until the module is here and I've had a chance to play it...but I'm anticipating the tweaks will put this ahead of my beloved (Holy) Grail..and I ain't BS'ing 'coz you know I've owned 2 of Pete's modded Rectos already :D

Yeah, I did a search for info on mods Pete has done the other day and it seemed like you bought every Recto he ever did. :) Why'd you let the other two go?

I bet it was during a "downsizing" mood, which happens often during a money crunch (leaky roof, broken car, etc.)...quickly followed by extreme G.A.S. Regret Mailman Syndrome (GRMS)

GAS and downsizing...the usual.

I have a monstrous sounding Grail module that everything else gets measured against too ;)

I imagine I'll keep this one...coz I have two rigs now :D

I love my PeteTreadplate...other modules come and go at my house, in my amp, but that Recto is just about glued into slot3!

I've always played originals, but to meet some people and get some jams in, I joined a -gasp- half cover band. I had to learn the Trooper. I used to be a big IMaiden fan, and especially Dave Murray back in the early 80s. Well **** if that Pete Orange switch doesn't nail Maiden's tone! I save it for solos- my version of Dave Murray, playing through a LPaul, it is sooo sweet! I'll have to get my Strat out, I bet it is dead on...

Something new for JKD...time to start getting Petemods x2 for the new wrinkles

Bump for updates....time for ya to start rolling the new mod into other modules..I really think you can nail an ENGL tone and feel :D

Oh shnyckies......hey Pete can you sprinkle this special mojo on the one I'm sending you?? 8)

hey pete if you make it around to the thread..

can i send you the 1086(the 1st one you ever modded!) and get this new bass feel?

hey guys, sorry I didn't see this earlier. Jacked up my shoulder pretty good, been to my regular doc twice and get to go to the orthopedic specialist tomorrow for xrays and maybe an MRI. woot.

Anyways, yeah, any module can have this upgrade - email me at [email protected] and I can tell you the particulars. Thanks for your patience.

I bought this module, and I am digging it. I had a Roadster and honestly, I like this more than I liked my Roadster. Just awesome work Pete!!! Easy to dial in, and it sounds huge.

Sweet!

This was my keeper module but needs must when the devil drives you insane with MTS GAS....

Glad you're digging it Dan! Steve, you know when you're ready for another one I can fix you up. Heck, maybe I'll have another improvement by then... I just keep thinking of stuff.

What kind of Recto did you tweak this to sound like? Like I had said, I like it much more than my actual Boogie. Pretty much how I wanted my Roadster to sound actually. :D

I had a Racktifier that I A/B'd a bit with. Once I get the SLO here, that will make four modules that I will have had the 'real deal' to a/b with...

Mesa Dual Rectifier Rackmount for my recto mods
Soldano SLO for my Slodano
Mesa Studio Pre for my Mark Series
Bogner Ecstacy 101B for my XTC

I have a few other amps I could 'clone' too but probably won't - Mesa Stiletto, Marshall DSL 50, Peavey VTM (lol) Fab Fox (double gut busting LOL)

:D

I actually had a VTM60 when I was young- I probably would be interested just for the nostalgia! I should have kept it, but I went into the world of harsh processors, ugghh

The tweaks to the Bass are what you're hearing...Pete's mod has that big sound but without the flab and it's not fizzy/trebly unless you dial it that way...so in that respect it's almost unlike a real Recto....definately tighter :D

JKD - ever have a racktifier? That's my 'ideal' recto tone... king's x dogman is a pretty good representation.

I wanted to get Ty Tabor one of my modded Rectos - was going to send one to Michael Wagener when I did a few modules for him, but by then Ty was endorsing Egnater and I didn't want to wedge in there, Jeff and Bruce are awesome and have been super cool to me.
