I think most of these famous musicians (like George Lynch) have developed their sound through certain amps that they will never be able to get away from. They will always go back to the tried and true classics (like Lynch's vintage Marshalls) to get the tone even if they go so far as to come up...

I wonder if/how/who mods these pro dude's modules, if at all. I like how the recording in the background, which is off Doomsday Machine, was recorded with a dual rec and krank revolution. Too bad they don't actually show how his rig sounds.

I own the clean and its decent at what it does. Without the resistor mod it was horrible though. I probably would look into a blackface or something else if I gave a crap about clean tone...hehe. Metal FOR LIFE

It seems like when I play at loud volumes, my RM50 combo picks up some weird buzz or hum that sounds kinda like what a crappy amp sounds like when turned up. Except, this buzz is intermittent and can sometimes be eliminated by giving the top of the amp a nice tap or flipping the standby switch...

I know there are definite differences between these two modules but I have only barely heard about them. From what I know, the Ultra XL has some sort of midrange range tweak that produces a more cutting tone but I want to know how these face off against one another. Are they very different or...

What's funny is it seems like whenever someone doesn't like a module, there is always a mod to fix it. For example, the recto module I have seemed really muddy before I modded. Also, I don't really like how my clean module breaks up too fast but all I have to do is pop in a new resistor to fix...

I own the clean module and its a pretty good all around clean, except there is a tendency for it to break up too early and too harshly. This might only be a problem with the older clean versions, but I'm not completely sure. I'll probably get around to modding it someday but overall its a nice...

I'd be interested to know how it compares to the ultra/ultra xl modules. Those three are the contenders right now for my next module.

If you're comfortable with a little soldering, you might want to try modding your recto with a capacitor mod. It will tighten up the sound and make it clearer, especially with that low tuning. Check out the module mod sticky thread to look into it.

Not sure if the settings are there but you could check the Andy Sneap forums. They used an "ultra xl" module which is different from the "ultra" just to clarify.

I know As I Lay Dying used the ultra xl module for their last record with Andy Sneap. That one might be a good one to check out for that. They probably boosted the signal with a OD pedal for that recording knowing Sneap. You might want to check out all the various tubescreamer/808 pedals out...
