Impulses sound like the way to go for you then.

Actually, if you want to use impulses, I'm pretty sure you can run it from the Send on the Series loop, with a 1/4" to an 1/8" cable into the mic port on your laptop. You'll get a raw, shitty sound, but then you apply the IR on that, and you're golden. Only problem is, it's only the preamp...
