    Your go-to module(s)

A matter of tone control. I use the Randall when I need the Hi-Gain sound, I have the others as a sort of backup when I need to pull back on the gas pedal. I'd have to look up exactly what the various positions are on the two modules, but in my ears they sound okay together.

    Your go-to module(s)

When I use my RM-4 I find myself using the DLX for clean, 1086 for Hi-Gain and the Top Boost for "normal overdrive". All of them in original state; no mods. My pedal rig remains the same though I don't use the TS-808 at that time, that will be left for when I am using the Ceriatone (which is...

Distortion from a pedal...Is there anything wrong with that?

I never understood this either. In the end only one thing counts.... How is the sound? WTF do I care whether that is pure tube, pure transistor or a combination? If the sound is great, who cares?

    I'm reaching an age....

I understand both sentiments. I notice that I am buying less and less "new" music. I've heard it all before, or I don't like the sound of it (the monotonous kickdrum beat from House comes to mind). But I am also sure that your parents think the exact same about the music you grew up to and...

    The best wah pedals

Probably too late to the party but my Wah is an Area51 one.

Distortion from a pedal...Is there anything wrong with that?

Sounds good. I can so hear all the old Death bands in it.

Distortion from a pedal...Is there anything wrong with that?

Use whatever you want. In the end only one thing counts.... how does it sound? If you like the sound when it is dirty amped and also has one or more overdrive/distortion pedals.... go for it! It mihgt be unconventional, but that is what makes music evolve. If Jimi He drix and Eddie van Halen...

    power amp with RM4....

Can't you take the Marshall home and try it out? The word offered kind f suggests that would be in the line of possibilities.

Is Dan Donnegan not with Randall anymore?

Tried looking up the Highway One... Fender has a seriously annoying site. Yuck! I am way into custom guitars, as that is the thing you hold in your hand to play. If it doesn't feel right it will never sound right. All my electrics (7 in total and one bass) have been customized with most only...

Is Dan Donnegan not with Randall anymore?

Communication failure again... I went by what I heard on the web as well. The store I normally do business with doesn't even have Randall. They do business with their distributor, so they can order it for me. I goto that store for the last 30 years or so and they know how I am. I know what...

Is Dan Donnegan not with Randall anymore?

Me neither. I won't sound like Michael Schenker if I buy a Flying V. I won't sound like Eddie Van Halen when I put a Variac on it... At best I'll sound like myself on Eddie's amp or so... Unfortunately there are still many kids that think that. I got the 1086 because I listened to all the high...

Is Dan Donnegan not with Randall anymore?

Yep.... They should have fixed that ages ago. Most people will go by what the website has to show them, just as I did when I got interested in Randall and decided to get an MTS amp. Suppose I am a novice and think of getting a RM-100 now.... Ooooohhhhh.... as a big Disturbed fan I simply must...

    Tube Screamer question...

    a. I decided to leave it be, and you come back at me... Thanks b. I didn't know there were problems with venting different opinions. c. Inferring that I don't know that different effects do different things is a bit low as I already explained exactly where I put what effect based on what it...

    Tube Screamer question...

Goes to show that there is absolutely no "true law" about it :D Using a boost to overcome the difference between single coil and humbucker... I never thought of that. All my "stage guitars" use EMG pickups and they have roughly the same output level so switching between single coil and...

    Tube Screamer question...

I think we are discussing two different thingas in this one sentence. - A Clean Boost alters the sound as it boosts the output level, therefore it should be in front. but!... - it is the one exception as it has no use in front of the amp. Delays and such take one signal, copy that and...

    Tube Screamer question...

That's what I said as well. My Setup is as follows: guitar > PolyTune > TS-808 > Wah > Whammy > Amp Loop --> Volume pedal > TC Electronic Nova System that is used for Delay, Reverb, Chorus, Flanger, Clean boost, etc. > Return And after the amp a TalkBox

Is Dan Donnegan not with Randall anymore?

Is it me or has the catalog not been updated for ages? I cannot find the Plexi Plus on the site, the price list from my importer still lists the Brown...

    Tube Screamer question...

Hmmm.... My ideas are a little different, but still overdrives in front. My opinion is that sound altering effects have to be in front of the pre-amp, and sound adding in the loop. Overdrives alter the sound with more gain, Wahs change the tone, Whammys and Octavers the pitch, so all in front...

    why do you use EMG's?

I have them too on my Strat, though I didn't get a Gilmour guard as I combined the controls with SA-V pickups. As I said, I never noticed excessive noise coming from them.
