Ok so ive got some time now until my next class and no pressing school work to handle, so lets continue to break in the new topic zone ey fellas?

Post your recent fav jams of the week! Once again i get it started, but i'd be super stoked to get some good replys from everyone else with their picks! I've yet to see a flame war on this forum so far, so if you take exception to someones pick pls be civil about it.

Metal! Top metal picks of the last week

Animosity - Empires : amazing band from norcal great sound and a unique feel for modern death metal; fast and techy into semi rock and rollish stompy parts. The singer has the coolest lows i've heard in a while

-Despised Icon - The healing Process: awesome death metal band from montreal; brutal guitar parts and another completely crazy singer. He does a lot of inhaled gutterals which are completely nuts. And the guitarist yanick plays a strat with an EMG single coil and mid boost just like i have and it sounds immense.

-At the Gates - Slaughter of the soul - If you consider yourself a fan of metal and you dont listen to this band you're missing out! they've been broken up for quite some time, but they defined the euro sound in my eyes and that record is the blueprint for a lot of bands these days.

Other noteables for me

Danny Gatton - 88 elmira street - Seriously where do guys like this come from? I wish i could get this style down seriously its one of the only sounds that really really escapes me. If anyone on here is into redneck jazz kinda stuff and has some good pointers fire away because its one of the only genres i still want to conquer.

The Rara Avis - ep - ok ill admit these guys are my friends and are locals, but theyre in a contest right now called MTV-U and they really are one of the catchiest indie pop bands i've ever heard and i cant stop listening to this EP. Check them out on myspace you wont be disappointed if you like poppy rock

Bruce Hornsby - Hot House- This is my favorite artist of all time(i have serious piano envy for a guitarist) and this record is what got me into pat metheny; he's all over it and every solo he plays is so utterly lyrical he might as well have just been singing into his pickups; the drummer is a guy named john molo and he's one of the best rock drummers i've ever encountered, sort of like john molos power with buddy rich's chops. Really great cd.

Thanks for participating ahead of time if you post a reply; Im actually just killing time here, but once again this is a great forum with some chill dudes and harmony central makes me want to shut off my computer forever.

One of my all time faves - Pornograffitti by Extreme

I also dig EJ's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Tommy by The Who and The Beatles Revolver along with a bunch of other stuff.

Well guys, now we're talking! I recently came across some jewels on YouTube. The first two are from what I consider perhaps the best two guitar band of all time. For anyone who likes dual-lead stuff, these guys did it first.
Wishbone Ash - Warrior
Wishbone Ash - Jail Bait

The next two are just fun. The first one is amusing because it's similar to my situation, (upstairs neighbors' home stereo vs. my 100 Watt Marshall = neighbors still zip.)
Small Faces - Lazy Sunday

This one reminds me that MTV didn't always suck!
Slade - Run, Run Away

Hope y'all enjoy!

Cool! This is fun. BTW I LOVE Wishbone Ash dude. Going back to that era I have to recomend Danny Kerwin on Fleetwood Mac's Bare Trees album. Some mighty tastey guitar.

What am I listening to right now? Government Mule - High and Mighty. It's worn out. I must stop soon. Before that it was the new live Black Crowes. I am very selective about what type of "diet" I am on while recording my own material in the studio, which is where I'm at right now. I am like a sponge so I have to stay in the vien of what I am doing ... sort of.

Yeah the new isis is intense. Im going to see them in march in orlando with Torche and Jesu and im pretty stoked on that. I still like Oceanic best of their stuff though. You'd like these guys if you dig isis; they're friends of mine i bought my cab off the singer/guitarist - www.myspace.com/coffindancer

Wishbone ash is amazing. When my dad first came out and heard all of the harmonies the other guitarist and i use in my band he broke out one of their records to school me a tad and that band was really underrated.

The faces are too! I hate people who dont realize that rod stewart didnt always just do jazz covers and AM rock.

I suppose ill add another to my list: MOUNTAIN!!!!!! holy **** what a sound that fat slob got.

Altanon and Three mile you guys would get along well with my pops for
sure!

The last couple weeks Ive neen on a Winger kick. I'll pause to let you all finish laughing before continuing...

No serious. Winger's early stuff was definitely pretty cheesy, but they unfairly got a bad rap from Beavis and Butt-head. Their new album "IV" is pretty awesome, as is their early 90s album "Pull". Some great playing by Reb Beach on these records.

Otherwise, Ive been listening to the latest Breaking Benjamin, Extreme's Pornograffiti, Skillet, and Andy Timmons "That Was Then, This is Now".

reb beach pwns, maybe just enough for me to look past kip wingers ballet.

Check out "Junkyard Dog" from the Pull album. Great Recto tone and some good chunky, dropped-D riffage!

through the eyes of the dead are bad as f*ck. i really dig those madison amps. the new chimaira is also killer as well as bleeding through's the truth

+1 on the new Chimiara. I used to think they were very one dimentional, but I saw them live a couple of weeks ago and they were killer. I don't own the new album yet but its on my list, its much better than their last couple of efforts for sure.

Through the eyes of the dead are amazing. Theyre playing down here with despised icon really soon and i cant wait. There was a thing on chimaira in guitar world with randy rhoads/duane allman/dime on the cover and i should probably check em out at this point.

since we're back on this thread a few more notables recently:

newest aborted record is freaking amazing and the newest vital remains rules too. That is all. haha

No, I would like to see that! Which channel was it on? INHD? HD Net?

I saw Whitesnake live like last year and both Beach and Doug Aldrich sounded amazing through 4(!) vintage modified plexi full stacks.

I am a basic cable kinda guy, even though i worked cust service for a company marketing both Dish network and direct tv for a year haha. So no i did not catch that.

Sounds like a good show. I was a Whitesnake fan as soon as Coverdale started that band after leaving Deep Purple (Burn was awesome!). I wonder if that will be out on DVD. What do they call it ... "Live at ... "?
