I'm talking popular music here, not instrumental jam songs ( not Cliffs Of Dover, Attitude Song, etc.)

I'll set the example.....

Rainbow - Can't Happen Here (Ritchie Blackmore)
Pretenders - Kid (James Honeyman Scott)
KISS - Love Her All I Can (Ace Frehley)
Dokken - In My Dreams (George Lynch)
Foreigner - Hot Blooded (Mick Jones)

These are songs that have made me run stop lights, forget to make a turn and miss my street or sometimes forget I'm in public. (air guitar in the car)

some others might be ....

John Waite - Change (Neil Geraldo)
Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven (???? )
Judas Priest - Delivering The Goods (Glen Tipton)
Fleetwod Mac - You Make Lovin' Fun (Lyndsey Buckingham)
UFO - Hot 'n' Ready (Michael Schenker)
Rush - Limelight (Alex Lifeson)

If it was playing on the radio regularly, I'd include:

Frank Zappa - Son Of Orange County (live version)
King Crimson - Elephant Talk (Belew & Fripp)
Yes - Release Release (Steve Howe)

The point of this thread is to share lead guitar solos that you may have missed, But it's good stuff.

So...tell me some of your favorites.
Don't be shy!

Nowhere Man solo by George Harrison
Any Major Dude (Steely Dan) solo by Skunk Baxter
New Kid in Town solo by ?Don Felder?
While My Guitar gently weeps solo by Eric Clapton
"Im always gonna Love you" Gary Moore
..and a personal favorite maybe you never heard but..
"I Cant Look away" by Trevor Rabin.
all of these solos are transformative..they take the song (and you) from here to there..and do so...so well..you just get caught up in it and for moment think and feel what the soloist wanted you to know.
..just the best,imho.

..I could think of a handlefule more..but its late ...Im tired.

"I Cant Look away" by Trevor Rabin.
.

Ha ! Bought the CD when it came out.
Favorite songs on it are:
"Sorrow (your heart)" and "Sludge"
The hit single "Something To Hold On To" was OK, too.

Trevor has done quite a few good soundtracks for movies, too.
Great singer/songwriter as well.

Nowhere Man is in my top 5 Beatles songs. ("Hello Good-bye" being #1 on the list)

A couple others I just thought of...

Yngvie Malmstein - I'll See The Light Tonight
Edward Van Halen - Light Up The Sky
Extreme - Get The Funk Out
Eagles - Hotel California
Pnk Floyd - Money or Comfortably Numb

You're right...I could think of a bunch

This is a tough one, especially if we're talking radio-friendly. I'll take a shot at it though.

In no particular order after the 1st:
Into the Fire--Dokken (Lynch) (not my fave, but what got me hooked way back when it came out)
Come Again--**** Yankees (Nugent)
Lay it on the Line--Triumph (Emmet)
Painkiller--Judas Priest (Tipton)
Another Brick in the Wall 2--Pink Floyd (Gilmour)
Saturday Night Special--Lynard Skynard (?)
Day of the Eagle--Robin Trower
Hear about it Later--Van Halen (?)
The Hunter--Dokken (Lynch)
Train Kept a'Rollin--Aerosmith (Perry)

Come-Fleetwood Mac (Lindsey Buckingham)
Cry Me a River-Pride & Glory (Zakk Wylde)
Nutshell-Alice in Chains (Jerry Cantrell)
Floods-Pantera (Dimebag)
The Earth Rolls On-Billy Joe Shaver (Eddy Shaver)

Some that pop into my head

Comfortably Numb, David Gilmore (Floyd ofcourse)

Wasted Years, Adrian Smith (Maiden)

Pleasant Shade of Grey Part 6 (live), Jim Matheos (Fates Warning)

How Many Tears (Live), Michael Weikath and Roland Grapow (Helloween)

Bat out of Hell, Tod Rundgren (Meatloaf)

+1 for Wasted Years. I always liked that one, but forgot it got some radio time.

The ending lead on that is one of the best ever! ("Lay It Down" also had a good lead)

Funny thing is, Warren D. had only played for a few years when they put that LP out. I think he got WORSE as he got older  (if that's possible).
I heard some of his work back 10 years ago. It sucked!

Black Sabbath - Tony Iommi - Hole in the Sky
Dokken - George Lynch - In My Dreams
Ratt - Warren DeMartini - I'm Insane
Soundgarden - Kim Thayil - Like Suicide
Alice in Chains - Jerry Cantrell - Down in a Hole (I think the harmonized voices over a subdued solo is a humble and understated brilliance)

Randy Rhoads- Suicide Solution Live
Van Halen- House of Pain
Ratt- Way Cool Junior
Night Ranger_ Sister Christian
Journey-Seperate Ways

Painkiller-Judas Priest (Tipton)
Tornado of Souls- Megadeth (Friedman)
When- Opeth (Lingren)
Deliverance- Opeth (the one at 8:15, I think its Akerfeldt)
New Millennium Cyanide Christ- Meshuggah (Thorendal)

"When you close your Eyes" by NightRanger
..2 great guitar solos in a great song. Geez..when was the last time you could say that?
GtrGeorge

PS: I am a major Trevor Rabin Fan and If anyone has any interest whatsoever..gibve a listn to his solo CD..it was 1989...but who cares..the notes, the phrases..the ideas are still very cool. If it seems dated try The Yes CD "Talk"...very esoteric, but also conatins some great moments.
trevor is sorely missed by so many..the soundtracks are nice ("Caught a Train" on the Eraser soundtrack is fantastic..but unavailable..******!!)..but the soundtracks have alot to do with music that is made to spec..to be used as wallpaper. I think Trevor has a rare gift with commercial songs (3-8 minutes) and we havent heard anyone in years who comes close.

Probably not the greatest, but some really good stuff here. The greatest is too subjective.

Hendrix: All Along The Watchtower: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RU1uwBNSCF0 -- wait for it to completely load.

Robin Trower: Too Rollin' Stoned: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhQJE7AUdxI

Randy Rhoads: Flying High Again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH-OueCZUqQ

Jeff Healey: See The Light: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoBHag7ykh4 -- this guy was amazing.

Jeff Beck and Jennifer Batten: Blue Wind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vOsTLyh1uE

Yeah,

you guys know your @#$%. I will try not to be redundant.

Gotta be;

Comfortably Numb - makes me cry my eyes out!

Freewill - Rush; interplay among instruments is godly

Go To Hell - Megadeth; awesome interplay between Friedman/Mustaine

Badge - Cream; phrasing perfection

Sharp Dressed Man - ZZ Top; catchy to the end of the Earth!

Cheers!

Off the top of my head (and one I haven't seen mentioned yet) is White Lion's "Little Fighter" (Vitto Bratta). Vito Bratta is a tragically underrated guitarist IMO, and I love that solo!

Definitely a +1 on "Comfortably Numb" solo. So soulful and evocative...

I think DiMartini is the man (saw Ratt in concert last month!) but I think my favorite solo of his is from "Way Cool Jr"

re: ratt..
heard a bunch of the new songs..and I dont know what they did but..
THEY ARE SOOO BACK!!!!!!
