Hey guys and gals.

I'm new here - on the hunt for a new preamp to satisfy my undying GAS. I'm a metal guitar player, looking to expand my sound palette - currently using an Engl e530 direct into my Mac's audio interface (a MOTU 896), using some cabinet impulses in Revalver. I'm actually pretty happy with my tone at the moment, but I need a bit of variety. I've been reading a lot about the RM4 (and the Egnater M4) and it's mods, and I'm REALLY interested. However I did find a few people in online forums elsewhere mentioning that the RM4 doesn't work too well when recorded direct with cab impulses. I'm not really sure how this can be true (it wouldn't be any different than my current recording flow). But I wanted to see if anyone was doing this, and if so, if they could post some samples. I'm pretty much set on the Recto, 1086 and XTC mods (at least for now) so if you can post s clip of any of these, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Bobby

there's a clip from salvation mods that he did going direct with cab impulses, the saldano and mandrin modules he came up with. sounded great to me

I just got into using IR's. I have a RM4 and record with Logic Pro 8 using Space Designer as the IR loader. Space Designer is cool, but I also tried LAConvolver (freebie) and it works good too. You shouldn't have a problem with the RM4 recording direct.

I have a few clips using the demo version of Recabinet, but they were accidentally normalized, so there is some clipping every now and then. I used a Tread Plate with a TS9 boost. I'll have better clips this weekend.

Hey Scott - great clips. Sounds really nice. Thanks for the links, I'm gonna try to record a few impulse clips of my own this weekend to see what I can come up with.

Thanks! I think I like the 57s, too, but overall I know my tone could be better.

The amount of free IRs on the internet is insane. This weekend I'm going to compare my miked cabs with some IRs. It took a few days to get used to them and tweak them like a plugin has to be tweaked, due to any latency.

thats true, but very sad, ?cause 99% is crap
try to find Keiffer impulses (not super, but not bad, I used greenback for clean/dirty sound) or guitar hack Mesa Traditional (old version, new is not so good) Recabinet is only middle level, not so worth for money (exist better free impulses) Don?t waste your time with voxengo boogex etc....

few links:

I agree, most IRs are crap and it takes awhile to find a decent usable IR. Recabinet is unimpressive. Although, Recabinet was designed to give a flatter response, so more processing (EQ, comp.) is needed.

I like the Sperimental pack (mesa trad) from guitarampmodeling.com. I have Guitarhack's and his originals are definitely the best. I have hundreds of IRs and most seem like an experiment that should've stayed in the lab. But, I don't think I have Keiffer's IRs.

Hyenik, what IRs do you use? Do use anyone's IRs exclusively.

we using guitarhack?s, some fredman from sneap forum, some of Keiffer?s.... but still searching for good impulses
I?ll try next week sperimental and some others....

Would love a direct link to some GOOD IR's, that people are using. I have a clawfinger 2x12 that sounds pretty good, but would love some good ones to load into AXE fx

You have to register with the site, but it's no big deal. At the following links, scroll to the bottom of the first post in each thread to find the attachments. This should get you started.
