Stock it would be the Ultra XL - in second place would be the KH-3

From a technical standpoint, the Ultra and Ultra XL are the correct answer. They are identical with the only difference being the midrange voicing and possibly the C3 cap (not 100% what's on the most current production models). The difference (if any) in perceived gain is from the mid voicing.
