I'm SUPER SUPER picky when it comes to tone. I have no regret's getting the 1086 because there is SOOOOOOO much versatility with this module. Want to boost gain.....flip the switch, want to change the mid voicing, flip the switch and you have a whole new tone.
I'm waiting to try my ultra I just got, but from this site i'm thinking this is the best module to get.
I think you should get both.

Both these swiches are possible to install easily without drilling any holes on your chassi or face plate. If you want the gainswich and not drilling holes, you can get rid of the brightswich and use that hole.

Tough choice! The 1086 and the Ultra XL are my fav High gain (The only one I haven't tried is XTC and the signatures) modules.
This is where you write stuff no one reads anyway.

The 1086 is easily my favourite module. It is so easy for me to dial in a tone I love. Admittedly, I haven't tried the Ultra, though I will probably get one in the near future.
Why not get both?
