Mixing Eminence and Celestion Speakers: RM50 Head and Cab

Hey, i'm fairly new to the forum, as well as the MTS series. i have a modded 1086 and a blackface, but no amp to play them on

EDIT: Ok, here's the new plan. i may be getting a RM50 head after all. if so, i am going to try to find a 4x12 cabinet on ebay or craigslist. i've found a few already:

with the 4x12's, i'm thinking about putting two Celestion V30's and two Eminence Legend V12's in them. the specs are posted below; are they compatible?? are there any other Celesion/Eminence mixes that would be good too??

with the 2x12's, i'm either going to get two V30's, two V12's, two Super V's or two Governor's. any suggestions??

You can find empty Seismic Audio 412 cabs on ebay and from time to time get them for nothing ( igot one brand new delivered 3 weeks ago for $75) then you can get Celestions for aound $80-$130 for all 4 and make your own killer Cabinet. Sorry i havent used mine with the RM50 yet.

I don't know which would be better, I'm hoping the cabinets I already have are gonna work. I made that 412 cabinet with the 4 celestion 30's for $150 total and its all new components. I might have to sell my RM50 fairly soon after I get it as I also won a RM100KH on ebay. You gonna be in the market for a RM50 head maybe?

for the type of music you play, i would suggest a vintage 30. it's the rock speaker, and our modules were all pretty much voiced to it.

I have a RM50 head coming and also a RM100KH, the KH doesnt have a power cord or foot switch. Will I be able to use the 50's power cord and or footswitch? Or do need the RF3?

the power cord will work, but the footswitch will only switch 2 modules...not all three. footswitches can be purchased directly from the randallamplifiers.com website or get the midi footswitch of your choice.

For an RM50 combo, go with a CL80.
Without a doubt.

If you can only have one speaker, and its in an open back, the CL80 is it.

well now i may end up getting a RM50 head after all. i also want to get a 4x12 cab to go with it. would it be practical to put 2 Eminence Legend V12s and 2 Celestion V30s in it, or are they a bad mix. is it even practical to mix eminence and celestions in the first place??

Ah! I saw you on UG!

It's practical, yes, and both of them b eing British voiced, they should be fine together. But like I said, if you want that Vintage 30 sound with no ice pick, go for the Governor

are there more specs that i should check??

does it matter that the RMS for the V12's is higher than the V30's?? when put together, will that mean the cab will have a net RMS of 120W??

nevermind. i just remembered i have a Mesa Catalog. they come with V30's (given that the one for sale is a standard recto cab).

i would like to get them, but their sensitivity is 102 dB's. if i got two of those, i would have to find two more speakers with 102 db sensitivity. i see the Swamp Thing has 102 dB sensitivity; would they go good with the Governors??

The V12 has 100.9 dB and the V30 has 100 dB; that isn't too much difference right??

Alright i think i've decided to get an Avatar G412 with two Celestion V30's on top and two Eminence Legend V12's on bottom (or vice versa if it sounds better that way?). has anyone tried this combination?? does it sound good??

I have the RM50 head and I am using a Mojave 4x12 with 2 Eminence Screaming Eagles and 2 Eminence Private Jacks in a X pattern. This combination for me is amazing! I actually mic both speakers when we gig and it sounds huge!!
