Tonight's live gig with Eminence Maverick Speaker in RM50.

Just got back for playing at Alore's in Staten Island NY to a packed house.
Bluesball is the name of the band. Amp is a RM50 with Top Boost and
Ultra Lead module. JJ 6V6s and the new Eminence Maverick speaker
with variable magnetic flux feature. In one word, OUTSTANDING!
I was able to dial in a completely driven power amp saturation, (Master at 10!) wonderfully touch sensitive, at a volume that blended perfectly.
The club is a long and narrow with the smallish stage at the back.
No complaints about "too loud."
Set up is a custom built Strat, into a Peterson tuner, a Vox Wah
I wired for a hard-wired bypass, and into the amp. That's it. Nothing else.
If you're blues and/or classic rock/R&B oriented, give the speaker a try.
MUCH better than a power soak. They also make a British voiced model, "the Reignmaker" with a mid range peak.

Sounds interesting. I read something about the speaker as the new Palmer 1x12 is equipped with one....
This is the first "review" about the speaker I read. The only question left: What about METAL? :twisted:
I didn't know they make another speaker using the technology so it seems like I definitly have to try them....

More opinions or clips (! with different speaker settings) appreciated! :wink:

Thanks man, I was wanting to hear a "real world" test of this technology.
I am totally curious about what it can do for a 2x12 cab I am going to be building.

Glad I can help.
I don't really have a way to do a recording to post. There are now
a few youtube demos to check out. My best guess is that for metal, the reignmaker would do better as it is voiced more like a Celestion.
Eventually, I'll use both. The Maverick is voiced more in the Fender
direction. You can really dial in a "sweet spot." The real proof at the gig
was being asked to "turn it up more."

But it doesn't say they're for closed back cabs. They list vented.

The control knob to adjust the magnet structure is in back of the speaker,
so......if the cabinet has a closed back, you can't get to the adjustment knob.
There's no design reason it can't be used in a close back cabinet since
the EBP goes from 13.4 to 70.73 with Qts from 4.47 to 1.09.
Most important is the sound. Great tone at a lower volume that allows
you to push the output tubes.
Of course, the SPL will change according to what output tubes you use.

Glad it worked out for you. I returned the Maverick and Reignmaker. They crapped out when used with my THD Hotplate. Didn't offer enough attenuation effect when used on their own. With the attenuation off, the Maverick definitely sounded better than the Reignmaker, but neither as good as most Celestions to my ears. I'm back to regular speakers and the Hotplate.
