Just installed an Eminence Maverick FDM speaker in the RM50.
Oh my! Much better than any power attenuator I've ever tried.
It allows you to turn the power amp master fully up. It drops the SPL
from the speaker, 9 db, according to Eminence. More importantly, it has great tone. No, it's not bedroom level, but I'll put it this way.
If this is still too loud for the gig, I'm not playing the gig.
There's a British voiced model, the Reignmaker.

Crap!
I just managed to talk myself out of it because it was too expensive..

Thanks a lot!

The way it works is so simple but ingenious. There's a plastic, arrow shaped knob right in the middle of the magnet assembly. When you
turn it, it moves the pole piece of the magnet in or out of the voice coil.
So you can crank the amp, get power tube drive and distortion, at a reasonable level. I use JJ 6V6s with a Top Boost and an Ultra Lead,
really nice tone.

The Maverick has nice, sparkly highs, smooth mids and deep bottom. The Reignmaker has a British cone so, more mids, high mids, less bass.
