Okay switching tubesfrom EL34's to 6550's, do I need to change the tube clip? If so, where do I buy them? Thanks for the help...this is my first time changing the tubes.
 
My thought is yes you will. I haven't used 6550's, but I have had KT88's (basically the same tube) in there and I did have to replace the retainers. You can just remove them and have nothing there at all or get some 6550/KT88 retainers. They are available at http://www.tubedepot.com/6550kt88.html on the bottom of the page for $1.95 each.

hey i had 2 ruby 6l6 tubes and 2 jj 6l6 tubes in my amp and i replaced the rubys for 2 new jj 6l6's. tube 3 isnt lighting up and tube 4 says tube failure. what is all this tube clipping stuff? should i have done this b4 switching rubys to jj's?
