My friend had a 6505+. He heard my Ultra XL and turned around and traded his 6505+ for an RM100. Of course, it was also partly because he heard my blackface compared to his clean channel. Either way, he preferred my tone to his in sound and dynamics.

This is my bud - I got him into the MTS amps. We'll be playing hard rock-melodic death metal. We're running Drop C as of right now. I just ordered a MTS 2x12 with V30's to push some more air. I'm excited to see how these amps will work together.

What can you do for an Ultra XL anyways?

I think it sounds killer - running with some heavy gauge strings on Drop C on my Les Paul.. It doesn't have that really annoying buzzy/fizzy sound I hear a lot from some other metal tones. It is smooth and tight, and for me at least, has a ton of balls.

Hmm, any idea what's odd about it? It sounds pretty good over on my end. I really need to start recording and figuring out how to tweak and EQ.. all I know now is basically plug in, hit record, and play. I need some experience in to get technique down.

True, I keep the bright switch off as well with gain no higher than noon. I would totally do that if I knew anything about modding a module.

I love the Ultra XL - I dunno where the thin description is coming in. This module sounds super thick to me, and no flub. I HATE flubby tone. I'm playing an RM50 combo with JJ E34L's and a Les Paul in drop C.

I liked the tone of the SL+ followed closely by the Plexis. I was wondering, how much gain are you using on the Ultra? It seems way too muddy to my ears - nothing like my Ultra XL.
